MyVotingStory.com puts voters front and center with six testimonial videos highlighting the urgent need for federal legislation protecting the freedom to vote
ATLANTA — Fair Fight Action, the voting rights organization founded by Stacey Abrams, has released a series of six videos featuring voters from Georgia, West Virginia, Michigan, Louisiana, New Hampshire, and Utah sharing their personal experiences with voter suppression.
The voter testimony videos and teaser are hosted on Fair Fight Action’s digital vertical MyVotingStory.com, which also serves as a resource for voters from across the country to share their own experiences encountering obstacles to registering to vote, casting their ballot, or having their ballot counted.
Last month, Fair Fight Action orchestrated a first-of-its-kind Fly-In of dozens of voters—including the seven voters featured in the new videos—from 16 states who traveled to Washington, DC to share their stories and demand federal action to combat voter suppression and strengthen national voting standards. Voters met with a number of Senators and their staff, including Sens. Warnock, Ossoff, and Manchin, all who have served as key leaders in the negotiations around the Freedom to Vote Act, which was introduced earlier this week.
“The fight to protect the freedom to vote is more urgent than ever. It’s absolutely critical that throughout this fight we center the voices and experiences of Americans who are most impacted by barriers to voting,” said Fair Fight Action Voter Protection Director Liza Conrad. “The voters featured in these videos are heroes, and the obstacles they describe are unacceptable in any nation that purports to be a democracy with free and fair elections. Our Senators must heed the calls of voters across party lines who are demanding federal action to protect our freedom to vote. By working together to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, our Senators can deliver legislation that will truly realize the promise of our democracy.”
The August Fly-In was a key component of Fair Fight Action’s ongoing Freedom To Vote Fall efforts—previously dubbed Hot Call Summer—to secure federal legislation protecting and ensuring the freedom to vote. As part of Freedom to Vote Fall, Fair Fight Action has partnered with Stand Up America to drive constituent calls to U.S. Senators through a joint hotline (833-465-7142) until the Senate passes both the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Together, the two organizations have driven more than 150,000 constituent calls demanding that Congress act to protect our democracy so far this year.
