Fair Fight Action Responds to Brian Kemp’s Signing of Anti-Voter Bill SB 441

  • May 2, 2022

Group responds to Georgia Republicans’ continued attempts to undermine access to free and fair elections

ATLANTA – Today, Fair Fight Action—the national voting rights organization founded by Stacey Abrams—released a statement condemning Governor Kemp for signing anti-voter bill SB 441 into law. Last week, Kemp signed SB 441, an unfortunate continuation of the State’s undermining access to free and fair elections.

This new law cedes to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations unprecedented power to meddle in a broad array of elections-related activity. SB 441 tramples on the long-standing authority of both the Georgia Secretary of State and the State Election Board to oversee elections-related issues, while providing local elections administrators no resources to deal with the increased number of frivolous investigations that may ensue. And, worst of all, it blatantly disregards the millions of Georgia voters who deserve free and fair access to the ballot.

Fair Fight Action Communications Director Xakota Espinoza released the following statement:

“Voting is fundamental to our democracy, and one of our most sacred freedoms. Georgia voters are entitled to access this freedom, and to choose their leaders fairly. But Governor Kemp has instead chosen to persist in his anti-voter agenda while quietly signing an unnecessary, burdensome, and potentially chilling law that will discourage voting, intimidate people from exercising their democratic rights, and encourage costly interference from a state investigative agency with little experience in elections or election administration.

The people of Georgia, and the public servants who oversee and administer our elections, deserve better. SB 441 is a distraction and does nothing to uplift our freedom to vote. Georgia voters need to be heard this May and again this November: Vote to ensure Georgia politicians understand nothing is more important for the State and its communities than a free and fair democracy. It is time these pandering politicians stop trying to undermine the freedom to vote.”
