ATLANTA — Today, Fair Fight Action, the voting rights group founded by Stacey Abrams, responded to the significant strides made by Democratic members of the U.S. Senate to advance voting rights legislation.
Democrats in the Senate continue to work tirelessly to negotiate a bill that meets the needs of American voters by improving and protecting the freedom to vote. Yet efforts to advance this critical legislation face ongoing obstruction from a Republican Party that remains unified in its efforts to thwart the will of the people and deny debate on a bill supported by a majority of Americans.
As the Senate moves forward to consider voting legislation, it is critical that they do everything they can to protect the freedom to vote. This should include reducing long lines at polling locations, limiting voter intimidation, protecting election workers, protecting and expanding vote by mail, ensuring fair districts and securing the will of the people in elections. Together, the U.S. Senate can show Americans that they stand on the side of the people—not politicians.
Fair Fight Action Chair Stacey Abrams issued the following statement:
“Americans across party lines support the For the People Act, and our leaders in the U.S. Senate must continue to work together to reach a compromise. We applaud the Democratic members of the Senate for taking this critical step today as they move towards a bill to improve and protect Americans’ freedom to vote.”
