Statement: Fair Fight Action Responds to Signing of Kemp’s Dangerous Police Protections Bill

  • August 5, 2020

“One thing has always been clear with Brian Kemp: he does not care about Black lives. During his tenure as Secretary of State, he weaponized our criminal legal system to intimidate, lock up, and charge rural Black people who simply wanted to vote and have equal representation. While running for governor and refusing to resign as Secretary of State, he targeted Black and Brown voters and silenced their voices. And now, with the signing of House Bill 838, Brian Kemp is failing Black Georgians again during a time when they are saying enough is enough. HB 838 may harm Black Georgians and protestors who become victim of corrupt police officers who already have sufficient protections in place. Brian Kemp had a chance to lead in this critical moment and prove he does in fact value Black lives, but, yet again, he is showing Georgia he is no Nathan Deal and he is unfit to lead.” –Fair Fight Action CEO Lauren Groh-Wargo
