The latest from Fair Fight Action
Atlanta — Fair Fight strongly denounces the Georgia Republican Party’s recent efforts to undermine election independence, suppress votes, and spread disinformation to the public. Georgia GOP Chair Josh McKoon took to social media to push false claims about Fair Fight and push disinformation about Georgia elections. The disinformation was even rebutted by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffenspreger. Fair Fight CEO Lauren Groh-Wargo responded with the following statement:
“Josh McKoon’s false claims and disinformation threaten to mislead the public and undermine our elections. Fair Fight’s work has always been about ensuring voters are informed and have the resources they need to make their voices heard. Suggesting that sharing public information with voters amounts to collusion is absurd. McKoon’s accusations are especially hypocritical given his own documented coordination with the Trump-endorsed members of the Georgia State Election Board who pushed illegal rule changes that were struck down by a judge, including a rule struck down by a Republican-appointed judge. This is just another example of extreme MAGA Republicans trying to suppress Georgians’ votes and create chaos around our elections.”
Background: In response to ongoing mail delays, several Georgia county election offices extended their hours to allow voters to hand-deliver their mail ballots and ensure their votes are counted. This step was crucial to safeguarding voters’ rights amid widespread concerns about mail delivery delays. The Georgia Republican Party, however, filed a lawsuit to halt this voter-friendly measure, falsely claiming that the extended office hours were illegal under state laws governing ballot drop boxes. The court rejected their arguments, with the judge clarifying that county offices were well within their rights under state law. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger also affirmed the judge was correct about Georgia's election law.
After they lost their lawsuit, the Georgia Republican Party and their MAGA allies are now making false claims about the law, spreading disinformation about the election, and calling on their supporters to show up at Fulton County election offices in person.
In addition to McKoon, other high-profile MAGA Republicans are part of a dangerous pattern aimed at creating chaos, fostering mistrust in the electoral process, and disenfranchising Georgia voters.
The false information pushed by McKoon and his MAGA allies are transparent attempts to undermine confidence in our elections. Fair Fight urges the media and the public to recognize these tactics for what they are — strategic disinformation designed to suppress votes and manufacture election chaos. We call on reporters to uphold truth and facts, dismantling these false narratives with clear, evidence-based reporting.
