DOJ Drops Voting Rights Case, Fair Fight Responds

Atlanta — Today, Attorney General Pam Bondi directed the U.S. Department of Justice to dismiss its lawsuit challenging Georgia’s anti-voter law, SB 202. Fair Fight CEO Lauren Groh-Wargo responded with the following statement:

“Today’s dismissal is another page in the Trump regime's plan to attack our freedom to vote and dismantle our democracy, all to maintain their power, and enrich themselves and their super rich donors. From gutting election security to reshaping the DOJ into a personal revenge weapon and putting Elon Musk’s DOGE in charge of reviewing voter rolls, they’re clearing a path to minority rule through chaos, confusion, and fear.

“Dismissing this case doesn’t change the truth, it just proves Trump’s DOJ will not work to protect Americans’ freedom to vote.”

Georgia’s SB 202: SB 202 was passed after Trump lost the state in 2020 — and the impact has been clear. State election data shows it disproportionately harmed Black voters by limiting drop boxes in Black communities, increasing absentee ballot rejections, and adding ID hurdles. Despite GOP spin, the facts show SB 202 made it harder — not easier — for many Georgians to vote.

Trump’s Attacks on Election Security: Trump’s regime tried to freeze $55 million in bipartisan election security grants — a reckless move blocked by a federal judge. The freeze was on-theme with Project 2025, which outlines how to centralize power and undermine public trust in elections. Gutting funding after 2024 saw record foreign interference isn’t reform, it’s sabotage.

Trump’s DOJ Power Grab: Under Trump, the Department of Justice is being corrupted and morphed into a political revenge machine. He installed loyalists like Pam Bondi and Ed Martin — election deniers and insurrection apologists — to rewrite the DOJ’s priorities. Instead of defending civil rights, it's looking increasingly likely by the day that Trump’s DOJ will be used to target his political enemies.

Trump’s Executive Order on Elections: Trump’s new executive order revives a voter suppression scheme courts have already struck down, hands Elon Musk’s DOGE the power to run mass voter purges, and threatens states that count valid mail ballots. It’s a likely unlawful tool to try and silence millions of eligible voters.
